Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting & Reporting, the Senior Accountant will primarily assist in the preparation and reporting of the monthly financial statements. You will also:
• Perform balance sheet and related income statement account analysis to ensure the accuracy of accounting records. Complete on a regular basis reconciliations of balance sheet accounts. Investigate, follow-up and clear all reconciling or unusual items discovered on a regular basis; • Primary liaison contact for department heads. Working with department managers and senior financial analysts, coordinate the month end close accruals, and other adjustments. Be the “sounding board” for advice on contracts and operational issues; • Prepare monthly reports to management identifying key issues and any significant variances (vs prior year and previous month); • Responsible for the adherence to and establishment of procedural controls (in conjunction with CTVglobemedia) to ensure effective and efficient recording of financial information in the accounting records; • Assist in the quarterly and annual external audit preparation and tax audits as required; • Identification and application of new pronouncements issued by the CICA; • Work on special projects in various areas of the business as required.
Qualifications:
• University degree in business/ accounting; • Professional accounting designation (CA,CMA or CGA); • Must have highly developed analytical skills and be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel; • Self motivated, proactive and team player
Must exhibit: • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with non-financial departments; • Superior ability to develop relationships with senior management; • Precision and high detail orientation; • A proven track record in performing variance analysis for both revenue and expenses. This includes identifying variances in actual vs prior year (and month), identifying cause of the variance, and providing recommendations; • Proven ability to implement process improvements related to gathering data / statistics; • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines; • Printing and Publishing industry experience would be considered an asset; • Experience with SAP and / or Lawson would be considered an asset. |
