Reporting to the Casualty Team Leader, you will be responsible for handling moderately complex to severe and contentious Casualty claims in which he/she performs investigations: negotiates and settles claims; provides direction to other team members, lawyers and service providers; and maintains detailed file records related to the claim.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Completing full investigation/evaluation of claims by contacting insured’s, claimants, witnesses and third party insurers to confirm loss details and obtain statements.
- Reviewing and interpreting policy wordings, Acts, regulations, legislation and contracts to confirm coverage.
- Formulating future handling strategies and work plans in conjunction with legal counsel.
- Conducting settlement analysis.
- Negotiating and settling claims with a claimant or their legal representation in order to reach a settlement as per corporate guidelines.
- Organizing and attending meetings, discoveries, mediations and conferences relevant to the claims file; recording information pertaining to the claim/coverage, keeping notes in the file relevant to the claim to assist with the final settlement of the claim.
- Monitor the performance and expenses of vendors/service providers to ensure guidelines and proper settlement etiquette are being followed.

Qualifications:
- University degree in any discipline or a college diploma or the CIP designation.
- Minimum of 5 years casualty insurance experience.
- Accident benefits or bodily injury experience and exposure to litigated claims preferred.
