Manager, Personal Insurance

Reporting to the Regional Manager, Personal Insurance, Western Region, you will ensure your department works within established authority and service levels and accept and properly rate personal insurance applications, endorsements and renewals with a large premium volume and complex risks. Answering inquiries and making recommendations to brokers and insureds through verbal and written correspondence is also a responsibility of this role. The Manager works with colleagues in the region to maintain a profitable personal insurance portfolio.


Specific Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensuring that personal insurance policies are selected according to corporate guidelines and rated correctly and accurately on the mainframe computer system.
  • Providing guidance for Team Leaders and senior staff.
  • Ensuring guidance is provided by Team Leaders and senior staff to junior members of team.
  • Establishing binding authority for staff.
  • Handling complex accounts, referrals and exceptions.
  • Ensuring completion of quarterly staff and broker audits.
  • Ensuring training requirements for staff are met.
  • Ensuring department meets both company service standards and broker expectation of excellent service.
  • Handling elevated customer and broker complaints when necessary
  • Participating in development of pricing and product.
  • Keeping abreast of changes in the marketplace, new products, rates, laws and regulations and implementing changes to workflow and training that may result.
  • Representing the company at industry functions, meetings and Courts of Law from time to time.
  • Assisting in planning, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Overseeing hiring, separation, salary administration and performance reviews.
  • Ensuring superior communication within the department, and branch, is maintained, especially regarding company goals, underwriting appetite and results.

Qualifications:

 

  • University degree in any discipline or a college diploma or the CIP designation.
  • Minimum of 5 years personal lines underwriting experience including 2 years in a supervisory capacity with performance management experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, as well as excellent communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential for optimum performance of both the managerial and technical responsibilities of this position.
