Reporting to the Supervisor, Open Space Design and Construction, this position designs and develops City parks, woodlots, valley lands and hazard lands; liaises with internal and external departments and agencies. Designs and develops City parks, woodlots, valleylands and hazardlands in accordance with city policies, environmental and aesthetic goals and recreation objectives; prepares site inventory information, conducts project research and site analysis to produce preliminary park design concepts;
prepares construction drawings, cost estimates, tenders and specifications and related documentation upon approval of design concepts; supervises park construction including conducting on-site inspections, participating in site meetings and providing information to contractors, developers, etc. to expedite approval upon completion; liaises with developers, contractors, etc. for park development projects to ensure that subdivision agreements are adhered to; attends site meetings and reviews payment certificates to obtain approval; assists Landscape Architect in the review of park plans submitted for approval; compiles materials required for site plan approval process, or public meetings; includes preparing presentation drawings, sketches, etc; liaises with other City departments, regional authorities and outside agencies on an ongoing basis regarding parks development;responds to public inquiries received regarding parks projects and follows-up accordingly; prepares cost estimates for annual Parks budget.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of over two and up to three years in Landscape Technology or equivalent;
· Over two (2) years, up to and including four (4) years;
· A degree in Landscape Architecture would be an asset.
